A new approach to an Australian classic...

In this project, a coastal house with expansive views across the pacific ocean, we propose a building that simultaneously provides connections through and across the site, as well as frame long, open views of the ocean.

By floating the first floor above the landscape, we create a open and indeterminate ground plan that engages with the backyard, and its headland context. An open 'arcade' cuts through the centre of the building visually and physically connecting the headland to the back of the property.

The building's form and materiality provides a critical dialogue with former Australian coastal housing types (Queenslander, lightweight beach shack), but organised spatially for contemporary family life.
